This page explains what gets stored in your browser when you play ALLEGEDLY*, who sets it, and how to turn it off.
ALLEGEDLY* sets no cookies of its own. The game has no accounts and no login, so there is no session to track.
What it does use is local storage, a separate browser feature that keeps data on your device and never transmits it to us. It holds your streak, win/loss record, guess distribution, earned badges, today's in-progress board, whether you have dismissed the how-to screen, and whether you have subscribed to the Tipline. All of it stays on your device. We cannot read it, and it is not sent anywhere.
You can clear it at any time through your browser's "clear site data" or "clear browsing data" control. Doing so resets your streak and statistics permanently — we hold no backup, so there is nothing for us to restore.
The site carries advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies or read existing ones to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites.

If you are in a region that requires consent — the EEA, the UK, and others — you will be shown a consent prompt before any personalised advertising cookie is set, and you can decline or change your choice later.
When you finish a daily puzzle, the site records a single anonymous row: the puzzle number, whether it was solved, and how many guesses it took. This is what powers the "only 34% of readers cracked today's case" line. It contains no cookie, no identifier, no IP-based profile, and nothing that links back to you. It cannot be used to recognise you on a return visit.
If you subscribe, we store the email address you gave us so we can send the daily dispatch, using our email provider Resend. That is a database record, not a cookie. Every message carries one-click unsubscribe, effective immediately. We never sell or share the list.
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies — usually under Settings → Privacy. Blocking advertising cookies will not break the game. Blocking local storage, or playing in private browsing, will mean your streak and statistics do not persist between sessions, since local storage is where they live.
